Rambling in the Südpfalz

Short break in the Rheinaue wetlands

With its natural Rheinaue wetlands, charming brook valleys and unspoilt forests, Südpfalz is ideal for long hikes.

While walking along clearly marked routes, you can savour the natural beauty and unique biodiversity that this region has to offer. On the way, you will see striking natural monuments and significant witnesses to our region’s eventful history.

Stopping off for a bite to eat in cosy taverns, beer gardens or fine restaurants.

Taking a well-deserved rest is also part of any rambler’s daily schedule. There are plenty of nice quiet spots on the Rhine, in our forests or at the numerous quarry ponds. And you can find all the freshly harvested ingredients you need for a hearty picnic in one of our many farm shops. Or you can pay a visit to our cosy beer gardens or wine taverns to sample regional specialities made from local ingredients. Or treat your palate to an unforgettable experience at one of our gourmet restaurants. Or why not embrace the local way of life with a glass of Palatine wine or a cold beer from the region?

Savour the joys of nature

With extensive, well-marked walking routes in the Bienwald and Bellheim forests and in the Rheinaue wetlands and brook valleys, this region is a godsend for lovers of the great outdoors – in all seasons. Blooming meadows, rolling hills and expansive fields give way to the peaceful tranquillity of the forest.

The “Treidlerweg” walking route in the Hördter Rheinaue region is well known for its outstanding natural beauty. Those out for a shorter walk will find plenty to discover on the explorer trails in Büchelberg. The charming brook landscape of the Druslachbach route attracts ramblers and amateur photographers all through the year.
